Father's Day Med Scare.

last summer (2011) . I got something that is rare for me , but it happens... A blister. So I just take care of it diligently and after a while, it goes away. well, this summer, actually the end of the school, it happened again... so i went into doctor mode. using bacitracin and covering it.( I don't as a rule go to the doctor, because in the past, I've healed pretty well on my own... something which is rare for someone with Spina Bifida. Well one Sunday morning (Father's day to be specific), I got up went into the bathroom and didn't like what i saw. my blister was now a bloody infected cut.. ( practically overnight.!). So I called my mother into my bathroom, she took one look at it and took action. She couldn't call the Doctor or go there, because it was Sunday and the office was closed; she also thought it was not good to wait for Monday so off we went to the emergency room at St Charles Hospital; Mom drove me because we wanted to go to this Emergency room since all my Orthopedic records were there. .we got there and there was no Orthopedist on duty so they gave me a Podiatrist. I never used one before because my Orthopedic took care of all of my foot issues. So the doctor came in and took one look at my foot and next thing I knew I was admitted . The next day or so I was seen by an 'INFECTIOUS DISEASE SPECIALIST' ( CUE PANIC). on one of the days i was sent down for a PICC line. I was in the hospital a week and sent home.. I was on IV antibiotics for the month of July and given a clean bill of health by the end of the summer.I was still going to the podiatrist for the toe which still wasn't healing 100%. School started up again in September and  about a month into it, The 'toe from hell' struck again so i went to the doctor and we decided it was best to just remove the toe!!
